Welcome to the Year 6 class page!
This year, the three classes are taught by Miss McGovern (6M), Miss Flower (6F) and Mrs Richards (6R). We will be supported by Mrs Clark, Mrs McSkimming, Mrs Pollock and Miss Rice.
On this page you will find lots of information about what to expect in Year 6, including the topics you will be studying, what you need to remember, and photos of our learning so far.
Please do not hesitate to contact us via the office or in person after school if you need to speak to us about anything.
We work on a three weekly rota for some subjects. Please see the document below for more information.
w/c 6th June (INSET day on Monday) All classes need PE kit on Friday 10th June (Week C)
w/c 13th June - Week A
w/c 20th June - Week B
w/c 27th June - Week C
We will set two pieces of homework each week:
- Topic or English
It will be set on a Friday and is usually expected back by the following Wednesday. Sometimes, we might set a longer project.
This year, all three classes will have PE on Friday afternoons. All children should come to school in PE kit on Fridays.
Each week, 2 classes will also have PE on a Monday afternoon.
Week A: 6F and 6R
Week B: 6M and 6F
Week C: 6R and 6M
If you have your ears pierced, studs will need to be removed or covered with tape; hair longer than shoulder length must be tied back. Please click here for further information on what your PE kit should consist of.
This year we will be having regular Forest School sessions. We will keep this page updated with dates of any Forest School sessions we have planned.
When there is a Forest School session, children should come to school in school jumper and t-shirt but with suitable shoes and trousers. In wet weather, children should bring in a change of shoes (e.g. wellies)
Click the relevant link below to access Tinkercad - the website we are using for 3D modelling this half term. Please note: your teachers will be able to see all of your designs.
It is important that you stay hydrated, so please remember to bring in a named water bottle. A break time snack can be brought in, but it must be fresh fruit or vegetables. Please note that on Monday - Thursday lunch will not be eaten until 12.45pm therefore we encourage snacks for morning break.
We would like you to try and read at home every day, either to yourself or to an adult; make sure you are choosing a book that challenges and interests you, and that you bring it with you to school each day. The following website has lots of recommendations for brilliant children's books:
"I do believe something magical can happen when you read a good book." - J.K Rowling
Reading Eggspress is designed for older readers and 'provides them with a unique and effective learning environment where they can improve their English language and comprehension skills'. In Year 6, we would like the children to use the program weekly as part of their homework, either by completing 'Lessons' - which focus on comprehension - or by entering 'The Stadium' where they can practise their spelling, punctuation and grammar. There are also lots of books available to read in the 'Library'. From time to time, we will set specific tasks which tie in with our learning that week. Login details have been sent home and are also stuck in the front of your child's English/Topic homework book.
Times Table Rockstars
All the children now have a Times Tables Rockstars account - login details have been sent home with an information letter, and are also stuck into the front of your child's Maths homework book. We would like the children to use TTRS at least twice a week for around 20 minutes.
