Year 4

Throughout the year we will use this page to keep Year 4 children and adults up to date with our fantastic learning, photos and other important information.

We have two classes in Year 4 this year:

4D - Mrs Dearman

4I - Miss Ilyas

We are also very lucky to have additional support in class by Miss Bell and Mrs Pollock.

If you have any questions or concerns, please get in contact via the school office.

A Typical Day in Year 4

General information:

PE:

This term our PE days are Tuesday (Game On) and Friday (alternate weeks with Forest School)

On these days, the children will need to come into school wearing their PE kit.

PE Kit: White t-shirt/ school PE shirt or house shirt; dark shorts; dark joggers and sweatshirt; trainers.

Please make sure all PE kit (as well as regular uniform) is labelled with your child's name.

Forest school:

This term we will be going to forest school every other Wednesday - the week we have PE on Friday we will not be going to Forest School on Wednesday.

Forest school dates for Summer 1: 19.04.23 - 03.05.23 - 17.05.23

Drinks/Snacks:

To make sure the children stay hydrated, please remember to bring in a clearly named water bottle. Children may have a snack at break time. If snacks are bought in, please make they are only fresh fruit or vegetables.

In the summer term, you will have received a parent mail from Mrs Thomas explaining the changes in home learning in more detail. Your child will have a choice from 9 different activities, of which they are to complete 5, over a 5 week period.  The * indicates tasks that must be undertaken. Any completed work needs to be returned to school by Wednesday to each week, books will be sent home on Fridays as usual.

Please look down below to find the home learning grid.

Reading:

"There are many ways to enlarge your child's world, love of books is the best of all" - Jacqueline Kennedy.

We would like you to encourage your child to read at home every day. Please ensure that your child has a current book, appropriate to their level and understanding, with them each day. This could be a book from home or school. Please note, in Year 4, reading record logs are no longer used.

If you have any outstanding library books or school reading books at home, please could they be returned to school.

Here is a link to the recommended Year 4 reading list which is regularly updated. It also has 'book match' lists so if your child likes a particular author, it has suggestions which are similar.

Reading Eggs:

In Year 4, we would like all children to enjoy our interesting and engaging Reading Eggs programme; both at home and in school. We would like to encourage all children to extend their learning by enjoying 35 minutes of Reading Eggs each week, including a reading lesson. Children can either complete 'Lessons' - which focus on comprehension - or by entering 'The Stadium' where they can practise their spelling, punctuation and grammar. There are also lots of books available to read in the 'Library'. From time to time, we will set specific tasks which tie in with our learning that week.

For more information follow the link below to our Reading Eggs page on our website.
