Year 4
Throughout the year we will use this page to keep Year 4 children and adults up to date with our fantastic learning, photos and other important information.
We have two classes in Year 4:
Asters - Mrs Dearman
Lavenders - Mrs Ilyas
We are also very lucky to have additional support in class by Miss Bell, Miss Tahir and Mr Stammers
If you have any questions or concerns, please get in contact via the school office.
A Typical Day in Year 4
General information:
Belongings:
Our cloakrooms are very small, therefore we ask that the children do not bring large bags into school, unless there is a specific reason for having one (after school sports club etc). Please make sure all belongings are named.
PE:
This term our PE day is Thursday (Game On)
On this day, the children will need to come into school wearing their PE kit.
PE Kit: White t-shirt/ school PE shirt or house shirt; dark shorts; dark joggers and sweatshirt; trainers.
Please make sure all PE kit (as well as regular uniform) is labelled with your child's name.
Forest school:
This term we will not be going to Forest School due to our swimming sessions. Forest School will recommence in the Summer term.
Swimming:
Swimming will take place every Wednesday during the Sping term. Children will need to make sure they bring their kit with them on these days. Swimming hats must be worn and long hair should be securely tied back. No earings are allowed and must be removed before the children come to school that day.
The pool requests that boys do not wear the loose style of swimming shorts and instead wear something more fitted. If your child is unable to swim for whatever reason, please let us know that day, as we will not be able to take them with us to the pool and alternative arrangements will need to be made. Children who forget their kit, will also be required to stay in school.
Drinks/Snacks:
To make sure the children stay hydrated, please remember to bring in a clearly named water bottle. Please remember that only water is permitted in these. Children may have a snack at break time. If snacks are bought in, please make they are only fresh fruit or vegetables.
Your child will have a choice from 9 different activities, of which they are to complete 5, over a 5 week period. The * indicates tasks that must be undertaken. Any completed work needs to be returned to school by Wednesday to each week, books will be sent home on Fridays.
Please look down below to find the home learning grid.
Reading:
We would like you to encourage your child to read at home every day. Please ensure that your child has a current book, appropriate to their level and understanding, with them each day. This could be a book from home or school.
Please note, in Year 4, reading record logs are no longer used.
Here is a link to the recommended Year 4 reading list which is regularly updated. It also has 'book match' lists so if your child likes a particular author, it has suggestions which are similar.

Reading Eggs:
In Year 4, we would like all children to enjoy our interesting and engaging Reading Eggs programme; both at home and in school. We would like to encourage all children to extend their learning by enjoying 35 minutes of Reading Eggs each week, including a reading lesson. Children can either complete 'Lessons' - which focus on comprehension - or by entering 'The Stadium' where they can practise their spelling, punctuation and grammar. There are also lots of books available to read in the 'Library'. From time to time, we will set specific tasks which tie in with our learning that week.
