Tuesday 12th

Maths: Numbers to 10,000.

Today’s lesson is new learning for Year 5. Click on the link and watch the video, then complete the worksheet. You can print this or write your answers on a separate piece of paper. Once you have finished, you can check your answers. If this lesson has taken you less than an hour - and you have checked and corrected your mistakes - then please do the extension tasks and/or Timestables Rockstars.

English:

For the next two weeks, we are going to focus on biographical writing, learning about the features of a biography and about an inspirational figure. We will then plan, write and edit our own biography of that figure.

Lesson 1: To identify features of a biography. Please watch the video and complete the tasks as needed.

Spelling:

Log on to Reading Eggs and complete scheduled spelling lesson using the silent letters b, l and h.

Music:

During today’s lessons we are looking at the section entitled: Capture the ideas of raga and tala within Ravi Shankar’s Symphony with photographer Mahtab Hussain…

Linking to our RE topic this term of Hinduism, today you are going to learn about Hindustani music which involves raga (melody) and tala (rhythm). In this first video, you will learn about Ravi Shankar, who was a sitar (an Indian stringed instrument) player. Open the video which say’s ‘First…’  It is the video on the left.

After you have watched this video, you then need to watch the challenge video. This uses the musical ideas you have just learnt about to help inspire you to create a piece of art – in this lesson, this will use photography. Open the video which say’s ‘Then…’ You will need to have something to take a picture with (and if you are able to, to then print the picture) and something to add colour – perhaps coloured pens, paints, pencils, cotton, glitter etc. Alternatively, you can use the edit tools on your photograph to do this on the screen. If you don’t have any means to take a picture, don’t worry, you can draw a picture of your hands clapping – perhaps someone in your household could help you to outline your hands on your paper.
