Eco-School

#EcoSchoolsAtHome 10 day challenge!

We have another exciting #EcoSchoolsAtHome opportunity for you to take part in!

Eco Schools have launched a 10 day topic challenge alongside their new partners Frugi.  Every school day from Monday 6th July to Friday 17th July, they will be setting schools and families across the country simple topic actions that can be carried out either in school or at home.  Miss Blackman will be uploading the daily challenges onto this page each day.  Send your photos in to her via email and look out for them on this page.

Do what you can, even if you only manage one challenge because remember that every small action you take, is a step closer to making a big change in our world!

This is the final week that the Eco-Schools programme will be publishing activities as part of the Eco-Schools at Home initiative.  You may have noticed that we have covered the ten Eco-Schools topics over the past ten weeks, but that doesn't mean you need to stop taking part!

-Go back to previous activities you haven't yet tried.

-Find a topic you really enjoyed and explore some more.

-Come up with some inventive ideas for how you can continue to help the environment in your home.

-Think up some ways we can work together when we are back at school - have you got a project or design that you could suggest to Miss Blackman and the Eco-Warriors?

-Watch this space for more ideas and links to keep you busy in the coming weeks

Thank you for everyone's participation - please don't forget to send Miss Blackman any photos of things you have done at home.

This week, the Eco-Schools topic is Litter.  Eco-Schools have organised a competition with the help of their friends 'The Wombles' (take a look online if you are not sure who they are)!  They are asking children to create a short comic strip showing 'The Wombles' out on a litter pick.  The aim being to highlight the impact of litter on our environment and particularly on wildlife.  Take a look at the pdf document for more details.

PRIZES
A special team of Eco-Schools and Wombles friends will be picking one winner from each of the nursery, primary and secondary/college competition entries. Each winner will receive:
• £500 to donate to a local or national wildlife charity on behalf of your nursery or school.
• A nursery/ school visit from Orinoco himself in the next academic year to help your school carry out a litter pick.
• A set of limited edition Eco-Schools goodies.

The deadline for all online competition entries is Friday 29th May 2020 at 16.00. Our three lucky winners will be announced at 9.00, 12.00 and 15.00 on Friday 5th June 2020 to celebrate World Environment Day. Don’t forget to include #TheWomblesEcoSchool when you submit your entry on social media (TwitterInstagramFacebook)  otherwise it will not be counted.

PLEASE NOTE: We cannot accept entries via the school.  If you would like to enter please do so via your own social media accounts.  Thank you :)

The Eco-Schools programme have put together a new set of Eco-School resources that allow you to work on a variety of environmental topics at home – they have called the programme Eco-Home for now!

Each week they will be releasing a new Eco-Schools Topic handout that will include 5 different topic related tasks that can be undertaken at home.  The topic activities have been designed so that they can be carried out by children from Nursery to Year 6.

We will add the new resources to this page each week.  Do share your eco-home schooling with us at St.Mary's, as well as with @EcoSchools.  Use #EcoSchoolsStayHome and #EcoSchoolsAtHome when sharing your posts.
