Young Carers

A Young Carer is a child or young person who helps look after a family member who is ill, disabled, or has mental health needs. Young carers might help with everyday tasks like cooking, cleaning, shopping, or providing emotional support to those they care for.

At St Mary's C of E School, we recognise the important role our young carers play and are committed to supporting them.

We run dedicated groups where young carers can meet others who understand their experiences: our KS1 Young Carers Group meets on Tuesdays, and our KS2 Young Carers Group meets on Thursdays. We also offer after-school clubs specifically for young carers and organise special school trips, giving the children time to enjoy being young, make friends, and have fun in a supportive environment.

If you think your child may be a young carer, or if you'd like more information about our support programmes, please get in touch with the school by emailing Miss Culliton on flo@sma.odbst.org
