Eco Schools

Recently, we have started the journey to becoming an international, Green Flag Award Eco-School.

What is the Eco-Schools programme?

The programme is run by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy and is designed to raise environmental awareness amongst young people. There are nearly 70 countries involved around the world and millions of children participating.  Our school is now part of this global community working to create environmental change for the benefit of our children and future generations.

The Eco-Schools programme focuses on ten important environmental topics:

  1. Biodiversity                              6.   Marine
  2. Energy                                     7.   School Grounds
  3. Global Citizenship                    8.  Transport
  4. Healthy Living                          9.   Waste
  5. Litter                                        10.  Water

Who are the Eco Warriors?

We have one representative from every class in our eco-committee, together known as the ‘Eco Warriors!’  The group have recently started meeting together to begin the journey towards gaining our Eco-Schools award.  We have just completed an Environmental Review together, which has highlighted three key areas that we as a school need to work on - watch this space!  Although the Eco-Warriors are the driving force behind the project, one of the most exciting things about the programme is that the process is designed to engage the whole school and its wider community.  It gives everyone a voice and the opportunity to make a change.

Let’s make a change together!
