Committee Structure

The St Mary's Governing Board is made up of the following governor positions:

1 x Head teacher, who is an ex officio governor.

1 x Staff Governor, who can be a teacher or other member of staff employed by the school and is elected to the governing board by all staff.

5 x Co-opted Governors who are appointed by the governing board. They bring a wide range of skills and expertise to the governing board.

2 x Foundation Governors who are appointed by the Diocese of Oxford.  Foundation governors have a special care for the Christian character of a Church of England school.

1 x Local Authority (LA) Governor who is appointed by the LA which maintains the school. They do not work for the LA but are people who live or work locally and are interested in supporting a local school. LA governors bring different perspectives to the governing board.

2 x Parent Governors who are voted onto the governing board by other parents of children who attend the school. Parent governors play an important role in shaping the education and experience of children at St Mary's.

1 x Clerk, who is an integral part of the governing board, although not entitled to vote. The clerk's role is to minute meetings, prepare agendas and give advice on the regulatory and administrative framework that governors work within.

The Governing Body meets at least three times annually, once each term. In addition to these full Governing Body meetings our committees also meet at least once a term. These committees discuss items in depth and make recommendations to the Full Governing Body.

The Governing Body occasionally more frequently if there is urgent business that needs attention.

The work is divided between two main committees:-

  1. Teaching & Learning Committee which oversees the curriculum, safeguarding and SEND.
  2. Resources Committee has responsibility for the school’s finances, setting the school budget and reviewing the school’s financial performance. The committee also monitors staff performance management, responsibility for pay and other HR matters, Health & Safety and premises.

The agendas and minutes of all Governing Body meetings are available to read in school.
