The Church on Fairford Leys

St Mary's C of E School has always had close links with The Church on Fairford Leys. The current minister, Rev. Anthony Howells, is one of our LA Governors and a frequent visitor to the school. He is well known in the community and to the children and their families. They enjoy his weekly assemblies, as well as taking part in the chess club which he runs. Anthony also attends JAFFA Club, where the children can gain a greater understanding of the Bible and its relevance to our life today.

Each class, from Nursery through to and including Year 6, visits The Church on Fairford Leys at least twice a year. They come to find out more about the Christian faith as part of their RE topics, lead services and take part in the annual Bible Experience Week. These weeks are an interactive way of looking at the Bible and have included The Lord's Prayer, Easter, Daniel, Moses and Parables.

History of St Mary's School

Prior to 2000, St Mary's C of E School was situated in Friarage Road in the town centre. It was built in1845 as a National School to provide education for the poor in the parish of St Mary's, hence how the school received it's name.
