Black History Month 2022

This year we learnt about the Benin Kingdom in Nigeria and had a go at making masks in the style of their famous sculptures and masks.

We learnt about Mary Seacole, who was a mixed race nurse from Jamaica and used her medicine to help soldiers in the Crimea war. We had Kwame visit to teach EYFS some djembe drumming, and had a go at copying prints from adinkra cloth from Ghana. We also learnt about John Blanke, who was a well respected black trumpeter for King Henry VIII.
